Manchester United injury news: Ten Hag provides update ahead of Spurs

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given a fresh update on his squad’s fitness ahead of this weekend’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils currently languish in eighth place, following losses against West Ham and Nottingham Forest in their last three fixtures, and will look to respond at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Manchester United Injury News

Lisandro Martinez

Argentinian defender Lisandro Martinez has been sidelined since September, following an injury to his foot.

The World Cup winner has been sorely missed in United’s defence, with the club sat on a -5 goal difference.

Although Martinez was thought to be nearing a return, Ten Hag has revealed that the 25-year-old is still a way off making his return to action.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag said: “Licha Martinez training, Casemiro training, Luke Shaw training, so there are players returning, they are coming in for selection for Sunday.”

Casemiro

Casemiro has now been out for more than two months with a hamstring injury.

A frustrating campaign for the Brazilian has again had a negative effect on his team and, as with Martinez, it remains to be seen whether the midfielder can return to full fitness in time to feature this month.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw has missed United’s last three matches but looks set to return for Sunday’s clash with Tottenham.

Shaw has missed much of this season, originally injured in the reverse fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in August, and will look to boost the Red Devil’s defence in the second half of the season.

Harry Maguire

After a summer full of transfer rumours linking Maguire away from the club, the England international vowed to work hard and reclaim his place in the United squad.

Due to an early season injury crisis, Maguire got his chance and managed to win over much of the United faithful with some spirited performances.

However, Maguire has not featured since limping off with what appeared to be a groin injury against Bayern Munich last month.

Ten Hag has suggested that Maguire is “maybe” in contention to face Tottenham.

Antony

Antony was absent against Wigan with what has been reported to be a minor injury.

No official update has been given, but the Brazilian is not expected to be sidelined for long.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag said: “Antony will return.”

Anthony Martial

Amid ongoing speculation over his future at Old Trafford, Anthony Martial is still out with a reported illness. The forward could leave the club this month as he looks to stake a claim for a place in France’s EURO 2024 squad.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag said: “He’s not fit.

“We want the players to be fit and in this moment he is not. We have to make him fit, it’s his job as well. ”

Christian Eriksen

Another player who has suffered from illness recently, Christian Eriksen didn’t feature in his side’s FA Cup victory over Wigan on Monday night.

However, speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag said, “Eriksen was ill in the week, he will return.”

Mason Mount

Having arrived at United in the summer from Premier League rivals Chelsea, Mason Mount has had a tough start to life at Old Trafford.

The midfielder has now returned to training after a calf injury, one that has kept him out since November, but he is now closing in on a comeback.

“Mason I think he needs some days or a week more,” Ten Hag has confirmed.

Victor Lindelof

Victor Lindelof underwent “successful surgery on a minor groin issue” just before Christmas.

United confirmed that the centre-back would be out for just over a month, meaning he could make a return as early as the start of February.

Tyrell Malacia

Tyrell Malacia has yet to make an appearance so far this campaign, having undergone knee surgery in the summer.

It is hoped the Dutchman will return in the next few weeks, to finally bring an end to Ten Hag’s left-back woes.
