Ange Postecoglou was proud of his side’s showing as Tottenham came from behind twice to earn a point against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Rasmus Hojlund fired Manchester United into the lead inside three minutes, with the 20-year-old following his first Premier League goal against Aston Villa last time out with an explosive early opener at Old Trafford.
Richarlison brought Spurs level on 19 minutes with a brilliant header from Pedro Porro’s set-piece, flicking his sixth goal in six games into the far corner.
Erik ten Hag’s team restored their lead before half-time through Marcus Rashford, but Spurs needed less than a minute of the restart to restore parity again. Debutant Timo Werner played in Rodrigo Bentancur, whose powerful finish caught out Andre Onana at the near post.
Spurs were the better side for large periods, and Cristian Romero crashed a good chance against the crossbar from close range late in the first half. Manchester United then missed a late chance to win the game as Scott McTominay headed over when well placed in stoppage time.
Postecoglou was proud of the performance from his side, who were without Son Heung-min, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr due to international commitments.
“You always want to win games but I couldn’t be prouder of the players,” the Australian told BBC’s Match of the Day.
“They have had to deal with a fair bit this week and to put on a performance like that… I thought the way we handled the game was outstanding.
“They are a good team on the counter. For the most part we dealt with it OK. Our response to both of their goals was outstanding and I thought in the second half we were the better side and deserved to win.
“We’ve had a rough week with some illness in the camp. Credit to the players they kept going to the end. It was an outstanding effort.
“Timo had two training sessions and played 60 minutes for the club. He was outstanding.
“We have 10 days until the next game, hopefully get some players back and at least some training into these boys. We will give them some time off because they have earned it.”
