Napoli an option for out-of-favour Chelsea defender

Napoli has emerged as a potential option for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, who is expected to leave the West Londoners this month.

Chalobah has struggled for favour since Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as manager in the summer, with the 24-year-old having failed to make an appearance for the Blues this season.

Bayern Munich were credited with interest in signing the versatile defender last summer, while Nottingham Forest failed with a £25m bid to sign Chalobah in the closing stages of the transfer window.

Italian publication Tuttomercato are reporting that Napoli could now offer Chalobah a route out of Stamford Bridge this month. The Serie A champions missed out to Spurs in the race to sign Radu Dragusin from Genoa this month and remain in the market for centre-back additions.

Chelsea would be open to the sale of Chalobah this month, given the academy graduate would count as pure profit on the club’s balance sheet. The West Londoners have FFP concerns following their record-breaking spending under Todd Boehly.

Napoli, who are seventh in Serie A after a disappointing title defence, have been linked with a number of Premier League options to add depth to their backline, including Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior.
