Inter close in on Premier League target Taremi

Inter Milan are close to reaching an agreement to sign FC Porto forward Mehdi Taremi on a free transfer.

Taremi’s current contract expires at the end of the season and the Iran international has been linked with a number of Europe’s top clubs, with several of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ credited with interest in the 31-year-old.

Taremi finished as the leading scorer in Portugal’s Primeira Liga last season, winning the Bola de Prata for a second time in his career, and has scored 86 goals in 171 games since signing for Porto from Rio Ave.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Inter are now nearing an agreement to sign Taremi, in what will represent a blow to Premier League suitors. The Italian league leaders also hold an interest in Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski and Lille defender Tiago Djalo, each of who will be free agents in the summer.

It continues a successful recent policy of securing high-profile free agents for Inter, who have signed Stefan De Vrij, Andre Onana, Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Hakan Calhanoglu and Marcus Thuram for free in recent windows.

Any deal for Taremi might need to wait until the conclusion of the Asian Cup, where the forward is representing Iran. The Iranians opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over Palestine on Sunday.
