Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin has said there is ‘not a chance in a million’ that Jose Mourinho returns to the club for a third spell.
Mourinho has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the manager’s position at Chelsea after leaving AS Roma this week, with the 60-year-old sacked following a disappointing start to the Serie a season.
The Portuguese coach won three Premier League titles across two previous spells at Chelsea and has been tentatively linked with a return in recent days, as Mauricio Pochettino comes under pressure at Stamford Bridge.
However, Nevin has insisted Mourinho does not fit the philosophy that Chelsea are looking to create and has ruled out the prospect of the ‘Special One’ being re-appointed in West London.
“In terms of the plan laid out by the club’s owners, there’s not a chance in a million Mourinho comes back to Chelsea,” Nevin told OCB Scores.
“If you look at the plan of the club, that’s not Jose Mourinho. It’s not his style. He does other things which are fantastic but the last time he built up a young group like that was Porto. That’s not his methodology.
“If the club did go down that route I would be surprised but I wouldn’t be gobsmacked because there are things that the club have done which doesn’t fit. I don’t think it would make sense at all for Mourinho to come back as Chelsea manager but does that mean it won’t happen? Who knows!
“If it was me, it wouldn’t be Jose Mourinho I would be looking at as manager.”
