Manchester United want to sign Ajax forward Brian Brobbey before the closure of the January transfer window.
Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer deadline and the Red Devils are ready to rekindle their interest in Brobbey, following negotiations with Ajax in the summer.
United will not renew Anthony Martial’s contract, which expires at the end of the season, while Rasmus Hojlund has scored just twice in the Premier League since his arrival from Atalanta.
Brobbey has scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 25 appearances for Ajax this season, despite the Dutch side’s difficult campaign to date.
Ten Hag worked with the 21-year-old forward during his time in the Eredivisie and, according to Sky Germany, is keen to bring Brobbey to the Premier League this month. Brobbey is also said to be open to the move and has a mutual respect for Ten Hag.
Brobbey came through the academy system at Ajax and has since scored 26 goals in 69 appearances for the first team. He moved to RB Leipzig in 2021, but returned to Ajax after one season with the German club.
He earned his first call-up to the Netherlands national team in October and made his senior debut for the Oranje during the autumn internationals.
Speaking to De Telegraaf earlier this month, Brobbey said he wants to become the national team’s first-choice forward ahead of this summer’s European Championship.
“My aim is to become the Dutch team’s regular striker in the coming European Championship. But I also have to be realistic, because the Dutch national team of course has Memphis Depay. Although I do think we can play very well together: Memphis on ten and I on nine.”
