Pochettino provides update on Broja future at Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino has provided an update on the future of Armando Broja and potential incomings at Chelsea this month.

Broja has been linked with an exit this month after struggling to establish himself in Pochettino’s plans, with the forward having started just six games in the Premier League so far this season.

Aston Villa, Wolves and West Ham have each been linked with a move to sign the 22-year-old, with several sides reportedly interested in a loan deal with an option to buy.

However, Chelsea value Broja at around £50m and could be reluctant to sanction his sale with Christopher Nkunku out injured and Nicolas Jackson at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg with Middlesbrough on Tuesday, Pochettino said there was ‘no news’ on Broja’s future.

“At the moment, [there is] no news. At the moment, we cannot update in any way. It’s all so quiet and I think it’s a good thing because we are working so well at the moment.”

Pochettino was asked whether Chelsea could make new signings this month, though the Blues face financial restraints after heavy spending in recent windows.

The Argentine said there was ‘no update’ on potential arrivals, though Chelsea have recalled Diego Moreira and Cesare Casadei from loan spells at Lyon and Leicester respectively.

“No update because I think in the same way when you ask me if players can leave, there is no news about players that can come in.”

On the returning loanees, he said: “I think we need to assess both now. Both came back from their loans. Good potential, they are going to be part of the squad and then the decision will be if they are going to be every single week, every single game, part of the team.

“I think it’s good news. We were suffering too many injuries and to recover players from a loan, I think it’s good for us.”
