Liverpool set for major injury boost ahead of EFL Cup semi-final

Liverpool are set to be boosted by the imminent return of Andy Robertson following a lengthy injury layoff.

The Scotland international has been sidelined since October with a shoulder injury which required surgery.

But the left-back is expected to travel to Craven Cottage for the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against on Wednesday. The Reds head into the game a 2-1 advantage from the home leg.

“He had his meeting with the surgeon to make sure that everything is right to go into full contact – it’s clear,” Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders said in his pre-match press conference.

“So he did a lot of work and really good rehab throughout the last period, so he’s fit in terms of sports science. Now he has to get fit with proper team training.”

“That’s now 13 weeks after surgery so he got clearance to train fully with the team so that’s really really cool.

Lijnders added: “He’s only trained once so he’s pushing himself in the squad which is nice because he’s one of our captains so that’s really important.

“The medical team said it’s a coaching decision so he’s in.”
