Bayern in ‘no rush’ to extend Leroy Sane contract

Bayern Munich are in ‘no rush’ to extend Leroy Sane’s contract with the club in a situation that will alert Premier League clubs.

Sane has been linked with a return to the Premier League with Liverpool and former club Manchester City credited with interest in the Germany international in recent months.

Sane previously spent three seasons in English football at Manchester City, where he twice won the Premier League title and was named PFA Young Player of the Year in 2017/18.

The 28-year-old has been in brilliant form for Bayern this season, scoring eight times and creating 10 assists in 17 Bundesliga appearances. No player in Europe’s top five leagues has recorded more assists during the current campaign.

Despite Sane’s influence, Sky Germany are reporting that Bayern are in ‘no rush’ to agree a contract extension with the winger. Sane’s current deal will have just a year to run in the summer, though there is yet to be a formal proposal from Bayern over a new deal.

Sane’s future could be determined by incoming Head of Sport Max Erbl, who agreed a deal with the German champions this month. The player is understood to have a strong relationship with the club and head coach Thomas Tuchel, but ‘plans to take time’ on his decision regarding his future.

Sane’s situation is one of several Bayern must address as a number of leading names enter the final 12 months of their contract at the Allianz Arena. Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies are among the other names whose contracts expire in 2025.
