Mauricio Pochettino has said Chelsea are ‘not desperate’ to sign players before the January transfer window’s deadline next week.
Chelsea continue to be linked with bringing in reinforcements this month with a centre-forward reported to be on the club’s agenda.
Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran and Newcastle forward Callum Wilson have been linked with a move to West London in recent days, while Armando Broja is a potential outgoing and attracting interest from several Premier League rivals.
Chelsea have spent heavily on new additions in recent transfer windows and Pochettino said he is happy with his current options.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s FA Cup fourth round tie with Aston Villa on Friday evening, the Argentine said there was ‘nothing to say’ on player movement at Stamford Bridge.
“Too many rumours; player in, player out,” Pochettino said at his pre-match press conference.
“At the moment, we have nothing to say. We work really hard about different things in different areas. We will communicate if something happens.
“We’re desperate to win the title but not to sign players. The last week is always a busy week so we need to be happy for whatever happens.”
Pochettino was asked whether Thiago Silva could call time on his Chelsea career at the end of the campaign. The 39-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and the Brazilian recently hinted he could depart.
“I didn’t hear what he said after the game [about being sad with every game that passes].
“We didn’t talk about the next season. Because I didn’t hear, I don’t know what I can say about that.
“Only he knows and the club if it’s going to be his last season or not.”
