Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Chelsea have enough firepower despite the club’s failure to sign a striker in January.
Chelsea were linked with signing a centre-forward in the winter window but failed to bring in reinforcements, while the Blues allowed Armando Broja to leave on loan on for West London neighbours Fulham on deadline day.
Pochettino insists he is not concerned by a lack of depth in attacking areas, with Nicolas Jackson back from the Africa Cup of Nations and Christopher Nkunku fit again.
“I think it is important to recover Christopher [Nkunku] and today Nicolas Jackson arrived [back from AFCON],” Pochettino said at his pre-match press conference, ahead of facing Wolves in the Premier League this weekend.
“We also forget about the signing of [Deivid] Washington, he’s here with us. Yes I think the options we have, it’s enough.”
Nkunku marked his return to the side with a goal in the 4-1 defeat at Liverpool in midweek and Pochettino said the Frenchman is in contention to start against Wolves.
“It’s good to see him, only we need to anticipate things, 45 minutes was good, it was enough for him. We need to analyse and asses him to see if he can start for the next game.
“I hope that he can cope with the demands of the game and play more than only 45 minutes. We need to keep working with him. Yes he’s started to show, we can see one option one chance and he was able to score a great goal.”
Broja’s loan exit was agreed in the final hours of the window and the Chelsea boss said he hopes the 22-year-old can make the most of more opportunities at Fulham.
“I think it’s a very good thing for him to have the opportunity to play maybe more and of course I think it’s a good move for him. I hope that he can take the opportunity to play more.”
