Ten Hag predicts ‘very bright future’ for Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has predicted a ‘very bright’ future for Manchester United after his side eased to a 3-0 win over West Ham at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s team took the lead in an even first half when Rasmus Hojlund fired in his fourth goal in four Premier League games, with the Dane marking his 21st birthday with a fine individual effort, as he sidestepped a defender and rifled a right-footed strike into the bottom corner.

The Red Devils better controlled the game in the second period and Alejandro Garnacho’s brace sealed a comfortable win. The 19-year-old fired in a deflected first after being found by Bruno Fernandes, before putting the result beyond doubt after sliding a low finish into the far corner.

This was an encouraging result and performance for Ten Hag’s side, who climb above West Ham and into the Premier League’s top six. The goalscorers were all aged 21 or under, while 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo produced another accomplished performance in midfield.

Ten Hag was delighted with the win and believes there is reason for huge optimism at Old Trafford.

“It was not easy, West Ham are a good side, but it was a great win for us,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports.

On Garnacho’s performance and the future for his team, Ten Hag added: “It is a time where he has to get used to this position because he prefers a little more left. He is playing now from the right, has some freedom and fluidity in the game where he could find some spaces. He was very good in his attacking, creating and dribbling. I am very pleased with this performance.

“I have said it before in the last couple of months the future for Manchester United is very bright. We have some real high potentials, we can play fluid football, speed it up as we need and defend well.

“The goals today showed young players with high potential. They get used to the Premier League standards. Every game they are growing and improving and adapting to a higher level.

“When they enjoy their football the confidence comes and you can see the belief is growing.

“The celebration I liked it. It is showing we do it together.”
