Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered a knee injury on Saturday as Liverpool beat Burnley 3-1 at Anfield.
The right-back provided the assist for Diogo Jota’s opener in the first half, which was cancelled out by Dara O’Shea’s equaliser on the stroke of halftime.
Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez both scored after the break to give the Reds a deserved win and send them back to the top of the Premier League table.
Alexander-Arnold was forced off at the interval with an injury and replaced by Harvey Elliott, taking the shine off Liverpool‘s victory somewhat.
Afterwards Jurgen Klopp revealed the extent of the injury, telling Sky Sports that the England international hurt his left knee, which sustained ligament damage last month and caused him to miss three weeks of action.
“Same area in the knee,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “Nothing really bad but he felt it again and we have to see. We will assess it.
“We were made aware of it in the game so thought ‘what can we do’ then Trent said ‘no it’s fine’. But it’s not as he feels it so we had to be careful and take him off.
Klopp also revealed that Joe Gomez and Alisson Becker were left out of the matchday squad due to illness.
“We thought Joe Gomez would be back but he had a temperature yesterday so we had to send him home. Alisson felt unwell, couldn’t sleep or eat really so that’s not helpful.”
