Bellingham backed to become ‘anything he wants’

Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Paul Lambert has backed Jude Bellingham to become ‘anything he wants’.

Bellingham has had a stunning start to his career at Real Madrid after joining the Spanish giants from Dortmund for an initial fee of £88m in the summer. Carlo Ancelotti’s side beat a host of Premier League clubs to the midfielder’s signatures and have reaped the rewards this season.

The 20-year-old scored twice as Real Madrid thrashed title rivals Girona 4-0 on Saturday evening, extending his record to 16 league goals for the campaign.

Bellingham is the leading scorer in La Liga this season after an incredible debut campaign at the Bernabeu, continuing the progress that saw him named Bundesliga Player of the Season at Dortmund in 2022/23.

The England international won his first title with Real Madrid after Spanish Super Cup success last month, while the La Liga leaders take on RB Leipzig as their Champions League campaign resumes tomorrow.

Lambert, who formed part of Dortmund’s Champions League winning team in 1997, has kept a close eye on the development of the midfielder and believes the sky is the limit for Bellingham if he can keep his feet on the ground.

“Brilliant. I met him a few years ago at Dortmund and I thought then if you can keep your feet on the ground you’re going to be one of the best,” Lambert exclusively told The Football Faithful, in an event hosted by BoyleSports, where he also spoke about Premier League Betting.

“I saw him play and I knew exactly what he was capable of. He’s progressed into this unbelievable footballer, all-round midfielder. He’s got every attribute. I think he’s got a good family around him, I think he’s well educated which is important with that level of stardom he’s getting.

“If he can keep his feet on the ground, which I’m sure he will, then he can be anything he wants. He’s a proper player but, more importantly, I think he’s a proper kid.”
