Paul Lambert has backed Jadon Sancho to re-find his form at Borussia Dortmund and has called his loan return a ‘healthy move’ for the Manchester United winger.
Sancho signed on loan for Dortmund during the January transfer window, following a public fallout with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
The 23-year-old had made just three league appearances this season, after struggling to make an impact in the Premier League since signing for the Red Devils from Dortmund in a £72.9m move in 2021.
Sancho has made a bright start to his second spell at the Westfalenstadion, providing two assists in four appearances in all competitions.
Former Scotland midfielder Lambert, who formed part of Dortmund’s 1997 Champions League winning team, believes the German club ‘suits’ Sancho and says he can rediscover his finest form over the second half of the campaign.
“He was brilliant in Dortmund the first time. He was fantastic and obviously gets his move to United. For whatever reason it’s not happened there,” Lambert exclusively told The Football Faithful, in an event hosted by in an event hosted by BoyleSports, where he also spoke about Premier League Betting.
“When you get into a dressing room you need people who are really good people there. Nobody knows the ins and outs at Manchester United apart from the people in there. The manager, I think, has handled things really well there. I think he’s had a hard gig and he’s handled it well.
“Jadon, for whatever reason, it’s not happened and he’s gone back to Dortmund and all of a sudden that club suits him. He plays in front of 83,000 every week, he plays a high standard of football, maybe Dortmund just suits him better than what Manchester United does.
“He might move from Dortmund and go somewhere else and it click again, it’s just finding the right teammates, at the right club, at the right moment. Timing is everything in football and I think going back to Dortmund is a really healthy move for him.”
