Guardiola warns Man City against Copenhagen complacency

Pep Guardiola has warned Manchester City against complacency when the European champions face Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League this evening.

The holders travel to face Copenhagen in the first leg of their last-16 tie this evening, with the Danish side surprise qualifiers for the knockout rounds.

Copenhagen have reached this stage for just the second time, finishing above Manchester United and Galatasaray in Group A and beating both teams in Denmark.

Jacob Neestrup’s side are returning to competitive action for the first time since December 12 after a long winter break, but Guardiola is refusing to underestimate Tuesday’s opponents.

Despite City entering the game on a 10-match winning streak, the Spaniard has warned Manchester City not to underestimate Copenhagen.

“My experience tells me this [that the last 16 first leg is always tricky],” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference.

“The exception was Sporting two years ago when we won 5-0 – but we scored five goals from six chances.

“But always I have huge respect for their first leg in the last 16 – always.”
