Zidane and Solskjaer feature on Bayern Munich shortlist

Zinedine Zidane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are among the names being considered to become Bayern Munich manager, should the club sack the under-fire Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel’s position is under threat after Bayern’s 3-2 defeat at VfL Bochum on Sunday, a result that leaves the German champions eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the title race.

Bayern’s 11-year stranglehold on the Bundesliga title is in real danger of coming to an end this season and the Bavarians are understood to be considering change in the dugout.

Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who has masterminded the title charge of their divisional rivals, has been named as a potential target with Liverpool also interested in the Spaniard as Jurgen Klopp prepares to leave Anfield in the summer.

Sky Germany are reporting that Zidane and Solskjaer are also on the shortlist, should Tuchel be dismissed. Zidane has been out of management for almost three years after leaving Real Madrid at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

The Frenchman made history across his two spells with the Spanish giants, as he became the first coach to win the Champions League in three consecutive seasons.

The 51-year-old also won two La Liga crowns with Real Madrid but has taken a patient approach to returning to management.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer has not worked since being sacked at Manchester United in November 2022. The Norwegian spent three-and-a-half years at Old Trafford, having initially replaced Jose Mourinho on a caretaker basis.
