Brazil boss reveals Premier League trio sidelined for upcoming fixtures

Brazil manager Dorival Junior has revealed that Liverpool’s Alisson, Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Brighton’s Joao Pedro will miss next month’s international fixtures.

The five-time world champions will face England and Spain in friendly fixtures in March, but will be without a host of English-based players for those games.

The new Selecao head coach has confirmed that Liverpool’s Alisson will miss those clashes, after the goalkeeper sustained a hamstring issue with his club side. The 31-year-old was a late omission from Liverpool’s win at Brentford at the weekend and is facing around a month on the sidelines.

Brazil’s confirmation that Cunha and Pedro will also miss the fixtures on March 23 and 26 show that the forwards are not expected to return for their club sides imminently.

Cunha has impressed during his first full season at Wolves with nine goals and six assists in the Premier League this season, including a hat-trick against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Pedro, who made his Brazil debut against Colombia in November, has scored 19 goals in 32 games since signing for Brighton from Watford for a club-record fee last summer.

Brazil are aiming to rebuild under Dorival Junior, who was appointed last month, after a disappointing start to 2026 World Cup qualification. The South Americans are sixth in the table after winning just two of their opening six games.
