Liverpool could be handed a boost in their potential pursuit of Xabi Alonso, with Zinedine Zidane open to returning to management at Bayern Munich.
Alonso has been named as the early frontrunner to become Liverpool’s next manager, following the announcement that Jurgen Klopp will step down from his role at Anfield at the end of the campaign.
Rival interest from Bayern Munich had threatened Liverpool’s chances of appointing the Spaniard, who has led Bayer Leverkusen’s charge towards a maiden Bundesliga title this season.
Bayern have confirmed that a decision has been made for Thomas Tuchel to leave the club this summer and the Bavarians have placed Alonso high on their list of potential successors.
Zidane has also been named as an option for the German champions and Sport are reporting that the 51-year-old is open to returning to the dugout at the Allianz Arena.
The Frenchman became the first coach in history to win three consecutive Champions League titles during his time at Real Madrid and would arrive with the pedigree to restore Bayern back among the contenders for European success.
Zidane has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, though is reportedly eager to return to management after an extended spell away from the game.
The report states the former Ballon d’Or winner has no interest in a Premier League role but would be a ‘good fit’ for Bayern, provided the club ‘give him the sporting power and fulfil his wishes’.
