Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has confirmed that Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah are doubts for the club’s Carabao Cup final with Chelsea this weekend.
Nunez and Salah each missed the midweek win over Luton and face a race against time to feature at Wembley on Sunday.
The dup have scored 32 goals between them this season and their absence would be a major blow for the Reds ahead of their cup final decider.
Dominik Szoboszlai also remains a doubt for Jurgen Klopp’s side, while Alisson, Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones have been ruled out.
“Dominik [Szoboszlai] Darwin and Mo we really have to see.” Lijnders said at his pre-match press conference.
“We have two more days. We have today’s session, tomorrow’s session and then we will check if they can be there. It would be great [if they could play] to be honest.”
On the club’s confirmed absences, Lijnders added: “Curtis has a sprain with a muscle on his high ankle and will be [out] until around the international break.
“Trent [Alexander-Arnold] has a lateral ligament injury and will be out until after the international break. Diogo Jota has a medial ligament will be after the international break, but after the international break here means we are not sure [how long].
“Alisson has a muscle injury after the international break, so it will take time.
“We look to what we have… it’s also good in life to accept what you, so that is what we’re trying to do. It brought us success in the past so we try to keep it open. I feel really happy with that, I said it a long time ago. In Holland you say every disadvantage has its advantage.
“You can’t everything in the world. We have a few injuries so we get young players, players who didn’t play five in a row but they can show up and that is really cool. This season is a season where we already created new teams in one season. That didn’t happen a lot in the last years, it’s a compliment to our squad and to the Academy.”
