Fabregas: Man United had a better ‘plan’ under Solskjaer

Cesc Fabregas has questioned Manchester United’s lack of a game plan and believes the Red Devils had more structure under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Erik ten Hag’s team are sixth in the Premier League table and face an difficult challenge to secure Champions League football for next season.

The Dutchman has endured a disappointing second season in charge of the club and last week saw his side lose in stoppage-time to Fulham at Old Trafford.

Fabregas believes the manner of that loss to the Cottagers should send ‘alarm bells’ ringing ahead of this weekend’s Manchester Derby against Manchester City at the Etihad.

The former Chelsea midfielder said there should be concerns at how easily Fulham were able to hurt the home side on the counter-attack.

“With Ole, there was some good big games. They had a structure, they had a plan. At least you saw a plan, which was defend well and have great breaks and counter-attacks. This is exactly what Manchester United don’t have at the moment,” Fabregas said to the BBC.

In the same way that I have the perception that Manchester City are still very strong even if the numbers don’t agree, with Manchester United I don’t have the perception that they are a solid team at the moment.

“Looking at the counters that Fulham did to them, the way this was done, this makes the alarm bells go. It cannot happen that a top, top team gets done on counter so many times in one half, or over 60 minutes.

“This shows that they are lacking something. I don’t know if it’s a game plan or if its structure, I don’t know if it’s the message. But if this happened to my team, there would be a lot of alarm bells going on.”
