Arsenal ‘keep the momentum going’ as Sheffield United knocked for six

Arsenal continued their excellent form in 2024 as they thrashed Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday night.

Martin Odegaard opened the scoring after just four minutes, setting the tone on a dominant evening for the Gunners.

The Norwegian’s strike was followed up by an own goal from Jayden Bogle and goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Ben White.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, Odegaard stressed the importance of that fast start to their impressive victory, which keeps them within two points of Premier League leaders Liverpool.

“We know it is a tough place to come so we have done really good from the start, we took control of the game, we know what their game is about, they want to play a lot of direct football, and we had to be ready for that,” the Arsenal captain said.

“And then when we had the ball, we were in a good mood today and we created a lot, we scored the goals early on and kept on going from there and in the end it was a solid and nice performance.

“We wanted to keep the momentum going, we’ve had some good games now in the league and we wanted to keep it up, we always want to start strong, especially at places like this where it can be a bit tricky if you do not start well and today we did and we did not stop from there.”
