Bellingham delighted as England dodge ‘rubbish’ reaction with late goal

Jude Bellingham is relieved that England won’t have to put up with “the rubbish” the team would have received had they lost to Belgium on Tuesday night.

The Real Madrid supremo equalised in the 95th minute to secure a 2-2 draw with the Red Devils and avoid a second consecutive defeat at Wembley.

Youri Tielemans opened the scoring for the visitors after just ten minutes, but it didn’t take long for Ivan Toney to level matters from the penalty spot.

Jarrod Bowen thought he put the Three Lions ahead shortly after, but it was ruled offside. Tielemans grabbed his second of the night following a delicious assist from Romelu Lukaku to retake the lead before the break.

Belgium thought they had done enough for their first ever away win over England, but Bellingham struck coolly right at the death.

“I liked it,” the 20-year-old midfielder told ITV. “I knew the rubbish we would’ve got if we had lost two games on the bounce. A lot of these lads I’ve never played with before.

“We should be winning with all the chances we’ve made. But these are two games that will stand us in good stead. I know people will be negative but we have to take the positives.

“You trust everyone that comes into the squad and they are all in there because they are good players. It’s hard for the gaffer, you plan these games because you expect a fit team.

“I’m sure the manager will be happy with how we played. You’re never happy with a loss or a draw but we have to be happy with how we played.”
