Mac Allister hails Liverpool mentality after Brighton comeback

Alexis Mac Allister hailed the mentality of Liverpool after their come-from-behind win against Brighton at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side moved top of the Premier League table, for a couple of hours at least, after beating Brighton 2-1 on Sunday.

The Reds fell behind when Danny Welbeck lashed the Seagulls ahead inside 87 seconds, but goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah either side of the break sent Liverpool top of the division.

Mac Allister was an influential figure against his former team and set up Salah’s second-half winner, with the Argentina international delighted with Liverpool’s win against an ‘unbelievable’ Brighton side.

“We didn’t start as we wanted but it was an amazing game. We played against an unbelievable team. I know them [Brighton] very well, I know what they can do and it was a tough match but in the end we won it and we are very happy,” he told Sky Sports.

“I would rather not concede so early but the mentality of the boys is amazing and that is what you need when you are 1-0 down, and today we showed it again. But next time we have to start the game winning, not losing.”

Mac Allister’s assist was his fourth in four Premier League games and the 25-year-old discussed his improving connection with Liverpool’s forward line.

“He’s (Salah) been asking for some passes and assists from me during the week. In the first half we tried to be connected – he missed a couple but then in the second half he showed his qualities.”

Liverpool moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League, ahead of the clash between title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad this afternoon.

Asked if he will be keeping a close eye on Sunday’s showdown between the two, Mac Allister added: “I will watch it if I get home in time. It is a great football match, I will watch it and enjoy it but the result is not the most important thing.
