The agent of Viktor Gyokeres has hinted the Sporting Lisbon striker will look to leave the club this summer if head coach Ruben Amorim departs.
Amorim has been heavily linked with Liverpool of late with reports this week claiming the 39-year-old has agreed a three-year deal to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in the summer.
Barcelona have also been named as admirers of the highly-coveted coach, who led Sporting to a drought-breaking Primeira Liga title in 2021/22. Sporting are currently top of the Portuguese top division again this season, four points clear of Benfica with a game in hand.
Sporting’s strong season has coincided with the prolific form of Gyokeres, who has scored 36 goals and provided 15 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
The Swedish striker arrived at the club from Coventry City last summer and has been a major hit in Lisbon, with a number of top clubs across Europe considering an approach.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been strongly linked with activating the 25-year-old’s €100m release clause at the Estádio José Alvalade, while Liverpool could emerge as suitors should Amorim make the move to Merseyside.
Gyokeres’ agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has said the head coach was the key factor behind the forward’s decision to turn down interest from other clubs in favour of signing for Sporting last summer, and suggested he could seek an exit if Amorim leaves Portugal at the end of the campaign.
“It will be difficult for Viktor to stay at Sporting if Ruben Amorim decides to leave the club,” Cetinkaya told Record.
“We had eight proposals for Gyokeres last summer and he decided to join Sporting for Amorim.”
