West Ham hope to beat Spurs and Liverpool to free agent defender

West Ham are hoping to beat Tottenham and Liverpool to the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo this summer.

The Fulham centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season and several clubs are circling. Adarabioyo’s availability has alerted a number of Premier League rivals amid the squeeze of the division’s Profit and Sustainability Rules and West Ham have joined the list of suitors for the 26-year-old.

David Moyes wants to reinforce his backline with Nayef Aguerd expected to be sold in the summer, while Kurt Zouma has struggled with fitness problems this season and Angelo Ogbonna will turn 36 next month.

The Hammers have conceded 56 goals in the Premier League this season, the highest-figure of any team in the top half. That is already more than the club conceded across all 38 games in 2022/23, when the East Londoners disappointed to finish 14th in the table.

According to The Guardian, Adarabioyo has dual appeal for West Ham given his status as a free agent and homegrown status. With doubts surrounding the futures of Michail Antonio, Ben Johnson, Conor Coventry and Danny Ings, West Ham’s homegrown options could be significantly depleted in the summer window.

West Ham hope a guarantee of regular first-team football can persuade Adarabioyo to turn down some of Europe’s elite in favour of the London Stadium. AC Milan have also been named as suitors of the centre-back, where Adarabioyo could join Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori among the English contingent at the San Siro.
