Forest slammed for ’embarrassing’ social media post after Everton defeat

Jamie Carragher has slammed Nottingham Forest for the club’s ’embarrassing’ social media post in the wake of the club’s 2-0 defeat at Everton.

Forest’s hopes of Premier League survival suffered a bitter blow as the club lost at relegation rivals Everton, with goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil earning the Toffees a vital three points.

The visitors were left furious after seeing three penalty appeals turned down at Goodison Park, each involving Ashley Young. First, the 38-year-old appeared to kick through the leg of Giovanni Reyna inside the penalty box, before a handball claim against the full-back was turned down.

Young was at the centre of another controversial call after bringing down Callum Hudson-Odoi inside the box, though each of the calls were waved away by referee Anthony Taylor and checked by VAR.

Forest took to social media at full-time and, in a stunning post, expressed their pre-game concerns over the appointment on VAR, and said the club are considering its options.

“Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept,” the post on X read.

“We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times.

“NFFC will now consider its options.”

Carragher hit out at Forest at full-time, with the Sky Sports pundit criticising a ‘nonsense’ post from the club that resembled ‘a fan in the pub’.

“That is like a fan in the pub. That is embarrassing from Forest,” Carragher said.

“The last line…what options? Are you going to stop playing?

“It tells you where we are with the PL and the clubs now. Attwell and Taylor have had an awful day today, and they should be criticised today, but what I’ve just read there is like a fan in a pub. That is embarrassing from Nottingham Forest.

“Rubbish: the VAR is a Luton fan? You can’t get involved in that. You have to show class as a football club. That is nonsense.”
