Tuchel emerging as an option for Manchester United

Thomas Tuchel is emerging as an option to become Manchester United’s next manager, should Erik ten Hag leave the club this summer.

Ten Hag’s position is under threat following a disappointing second season at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils sixth in the Premier League table and unable to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

United will face Manchester City in the FA Cup final later this month in a bid to salvage their season with silverware, before a decision will be made on whether Ten Hag continues next season.

The club’s new minority owners, Ineos, have begun to restructure the hierarchy with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox arriving in new board roles, while discussions are ongoing to bring in Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth.

According to The Times, Thomas Tuchel is a name on the radar of the new hierarchy should Ten Hag be dismissed. The German will leave his role as Bayern Munich manager in the summer and his pedigree, alongside experience of the Premier League, has made him a leading candidate.

Tuchel was previously manager of Chelsea between January 2021 and September 2022 and led the West Londoners to Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup success. He previously won two Ligue 1 titles at Paris Saint-Germain.

The 50-year-old is currently aiming to reach a third Champions League final in five seasons, with a third different club, as Bayern Munich take on Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final next week.
