Erik ten Hag does not believe Bruno Fernandes will leave Manchester United despite reports linking him with a transfer abroad.
Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder, who is said to be “frustrated by the sense of drift” at Old Trafford, according to the Independent
The 29-year-old is also the subject of interest from Saudi Pro League clubs as he heads into the final two years of his contract with the Red Devils.
Last week Ten Hag predicted that Fernandes will “definitely” see out his current deal, which contains the option for an additional year.
Ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League meeting with Newcastle United, the Dutchman reiterated that stance as speculation mounts over the player’s future at the club.
“It’s the same question as last week. So I answered. The same answer,” he said.
“Now in all the years he was here, he has been a tremendously important player for Manchester United – creating the most chances across the Premier League. So many assists, so many goals. It’s clear he’s a very important player for us.”
Fernandes is the team’s leading goal scorer this season with 15 goals in all competitions, as well as 11 assists.
Man United are set to shake up their squad in the summer transfer window under the new leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The British billionaire is reportedly open to selling all but three members of the first-team squad.
Raphael Varane confirmed on Tuesday that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, while Casemiro has also been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
