Erik ten Hag has said Manchester United ‘absolutely’ want to keep Bruno Fernandes this summer amid speculation linking the captain with an exit.
Manchester United could miss out on European qualification for next season and reports this week have suggested that clubs are circling for Fernandes.
There is understood to be interest in the Portugal international from Bayern Munich and the Saudi Pro League, though Fernandes has said he is keen to continue at Old Trafford should the club want him.
“I will be here if the club wants me to be a part of the future,” he told Sky Sports after a man-of-the-match performance against Newcastle on Wednesday.
“If for some reason they don’t want me, I will go.”
Ten Hag has emphasised the desire to hold onto Fernandes, who has 10 goals and eight assists in the Premier League this season.
“Absolutely the club wants to keep Bruno,” Ten Hag said, as per the BBC.
“Everything I know from him, he loves Manchester United, the fans of Manchester United and to play for Manchester United.
“He always gives his best and is an example to everyone, even with his injuries.
“He loves football and he wants to win. That is how I would describe his character.
“It is not easy when so many players around him are injured and he has to carry the team. But he keeps to a good level and, especially in the spring, he grows to a brilliant level.”
