Chelsea renew interest in winger with £60m release clause

Chelsea will renew their interest in signing Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise this summer but face competition from Manchester United.

The Blues made an attempt to sign Olise last summer and activated the release clause in Olise’s contract at Selhurst Park, though the 22-year-old turned down the chance to cross the capital and instead signed a new deal with Palace.

Olise’s contract extension saw his release clause raised from £35m to a figure of around £60m but the increased fee has not dampened Chelsea’s interest in one of the Premier League’s best young talents.

Despite an injury-hit season with the Eagles, Olise scored 10 goals and laid on six assists in 14 league starts.

He is expected to be included in the France u-23 side that competes at the Olympic games in Paris this summer, though England are understood to remain interested in securing his services with the winger eligible to represent both nations.

Chelsea are not alone in pursuing a deal for Olise, however, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Manchester United are also pushing to sign the Frenchman. Aston Villa have also been linked after securing Champions League qualification.

Palace are desperate to hold onto their top talent after a brilliant end to the campaign under Oliver Glasner, though face a fight to hold onto the services of Olise given the release clause in his deal.
