Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe has admitted the club will need to make sales this summer after missing out on promotion to the Premier League.
Daniel Farke’s side finished third in the Championship before being beaten 1-0 by Southampton in the play-off final on Sunday. A second straight season in the second tier, following relegation from the top flight in 2022-23, means Leeds will require sales to remain compliant with profit and sustainability rules.
Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville has been heavily linked with several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Newcastle and Spurs, after scoring 19 goals in the Championship this season, while teenage midfielder Archie Gray is admired by teams towards the top end of the division.
Marathe has said there will need to be some ‘trade-offs’ in order to balance the books at Elland Road.
“We have the funds we need to do what we need, but there will need to be some trade-offs because of [profit and sustainability rules],” Marathe told BBC Radio Leeds.
“It is not just outs, it is ins as well, looking at scouting possibilities, but we need to make trade-offs. I can’t talk about specific players right now, it is too early.
“There are certain things we need to do and we will make sure we are fully compliant with P and S [profit and sustainability] as we always have been. We’ll have to get back to the drawing board and see what deals we need to do.”
Marathe also said Leeds have no doubts regarding manager Daniel Farke and said the German is part of the long-term plan at the club.
“Daniel has been fantastic, I’m excited about working with him next season,” Marathe said.
“We had a long-term plan, a long-term commitment; we have to see it through.
“He has the right temperament. I feel confident because we have a four- or five-week head start on last year at least.”
