Barcelona aim to beat Premier League clubs to €60m star

Barcelona are aiming to beat interest from the Premier League and Bayern Munich to the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo.

Olmo came through the academy system at Barcelona before departing in search of first-team football as a teenager and the Spaniards are keen on bringing the La Masia graduate back to the club.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, was in attendance to watch Olmo provide an assist in Spain’s 1-0 win over Albania at Euro 2024 this week.

The 26-year-old has a release clause of €60m (£50.7m) in his contract at Leipzig and that figure is also of interest to Premier League clubs and Bayern Munich. However, that clause will only be active until July 15, according to Fabrizio Romano, with Leipzig keen to avoid disruption later in the transfer window.

Olmo has scored 29 goals in 148 appearances for Leipzig since joining the club from Dinamo Zagreb in 2019 and hit a hat-trick as the club beat Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup in 2023.

He has eight goals in 35 caps for Spain at international level, while his assist against Albania was his fourth at a European Championship for La Roja. Only Cesc Fabregas has more assists for Spain in the competition since the data was first collected in 1968.
