Dortmund ‘fear’ Arsenal competition in race to sign striker

Borussia Dortmund fear competition from Arsenal in the race to sign Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart.

Dortmund are leading the chase to sign the Guinea international who exploded onto the scene with a prolific season at Stuttgart in 2023-24.

Guirassy scored 28 goals in 28 league appearances to fire Stuttgart to a runners-up finish in the Bundesliga, having narrowly avoided relegation to Germany’s second tier a season earlier.

A release clause of €17.5m (£14.7m) has made Guirassy a top target for clubs across Europe with Dortmund, Arsenal and AC Milan the frontrunners to sign the striker.

Guirassy has informed Stuttgart of his decision to leave the club this summer and Dortmund’s negotiations with the 28-year-old are the most advanced at this stage. However, Sky Germany are reporting that Dortmund ‘fear’ rival interest from Arsenal, who are seeking the signing of a striker.

An option that has opened up for Dortmund in recent days is a potential swap-deal involving Niclas Füllkrug.

The latter scored 15 goals in all competitions during an impressive debut campaign at Dortmund last term, but the 31-year-old’s future has been described as ‘open’ due to the German side’s interest in Guirassy.

Stuttgart have enquired into the possibility of signing Füllkrug this summer, though a decision on his club future is expected to wait until after Euro 2024.

The Germany international is the joint-leading scorer at the tournament to date, with two goals, despite having featured for just 73 minutes across three substitute appearances.
