Liverpool target’s £85m release clause is valid this summer

Mohammed Kudus has a release clause of £85m in his contract at West Ham that can be activated this summer.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with signing the West Ham winger after an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League.

Kudus scored 18 goals and provided a further seven assists in 48 appearances across all competitions for the Londoners, with his exciting brand of football having caught the eye of rival teams.

The Ghana international signed from Ajax in a deal worth £35m last summer, having turned down a move to Brighton who refused to include a release clause in his deal. West Ham accepted those terms and Sky Germany have revealed the figure is £85m, which can be activated at any time.

Liverpool have monitored his progress at the London Stadium as the Reds consider long-term replacements for Mohamed Salah, who turned 32 this month and is out of contract next summer.

Liverpool are expected to open negotiations with the Egypt international over a new deal, though interest in Salah persists from the Saudi Pro League after a £150m bid from Al-Ittihad was rejected last summer. An £85m deal for Kudus would represent a club-record deal for the Merseysiders.

Manchester United have also been credited with interest, with Erik ten Hag having previously worked with Kudus at Ajax.
