Transfer for Bayern midfielder getting closer as Premier League trio circle

Joshua Kimmich is edging closer to a transfer away from Bayern Munich this summer with top clubs monitoring his situation.

Kimmich has entered the final season of his contract at Bayern Munich and an extension to his deal looks unlikely, with no plans in place for a contract beyond 2025.

Bayern are prepared to let the Germany international leave this summer should a suitable offer arrive, according to Sky Germany, as Vincent Kompany prepares to rebuild his midfield at the Allianz Arena.

Kimmich is prepared to see out the final season of his contract and leave on a free transfer at the end of the upcoming season, though a transfer this summer is a strong possibility for the 29-year-old.

Bayern are looking to overhaul their midfield and are targeting the signing of Joao Palhinha from Fulham, and the arrival of a specialist defensive midfielder could pave the path for Kimmich – one of the club’s highest earners – to leave.

Several Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on his situation, though the midfielder is only interested in five clubs if he is to leave Bayern. Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are all viewed as options for the German, alongside Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Despite a focus on emerging talent in recent transfer windows, the latter could launch a move for Kimmich as a potential replacement for compatriot Toni Kroos, who will retire from football following Euro 2024.
