Chelsea have made ‘further contact’ with Newcastle United over a deal for Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window.
The Swedish striker is in high demand after scoring 25 goals for the Magpies last season, despite missing chunks of the campaign through injury.
New Blues boss Enzo Maresca is reportedly ‘keen’ to add a proven goalscorer to his ranks ahead of 2024/25, according to Sky Sports.
Chelsea first enquired about the forward earlier this week and followed up with a second enquiry about the player on Friday.
Newcastle are determined not to lose any of their star players this summer, but do need to sell a player to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) before 1 July.
The north east outfit are said to be looking for upwards of £100m for Isak. Considering Chelsea have PSR headaches of their own to deal with, paying such a large transfer fee seems out of reach.
However, the club have been busy completing deals ahead of the PSR deadline to put themselves in a position to make signings.
Ian Maatsen has left Stamford Bridge to join Aston Villa in a deal worth £37.5m. The 22-year-old left-back has signed a six-year-deal.
Chelsea have also finally parted ways with Hakim Ziyech, who has joined Galatasaray on a permanent deal after spending last season on loan with the Turkish side.
While the Moroccan international leaves on a free transfer, his considerable wages are now off the books. The 31-year-old registered 14 goals and 13 assists in 107 appearances after joining in a £33.3m deal from Ajax.
Chelsea are also close to selling Omari Hutchinson to Ipswich Town for a £20m transfer fee with a sell-on clause, subject to a medical. The winger spent last season on loan at Portman Road, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists in 50 games.
Meanwhile, the south west London club are also in ‘advanced’ talks to sign Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors, according The Athletic.
