Brentford’s move to sign Archie Gray has stalled after Leeds United rejected an offer for the midfielder.
Leeds are reluctantly set to sell Gray this summer after missing out on promotion to the Premier League and gave permission for the teenager to undergo a medical with Brentford, after the Bees reached a verbal agreement with the 18-year-old on a transfer.
However, Leeds have rejected a formal proposal from Brentford regarding the transfer fee and Fabrizio Romano has reported the deal is ‘currently off’.
Brentford had hoped to seal a deal early amid strong interest in the midfielder from across the Premier League, with each of the division’s ‘Big Six’ having checked in on Gray’s progress at Elland Road.
Chelsea and Manchester United are among those heavily-linked with the teenager, who made 52 appearances in all competitions as Leeds reached the Championship play-off final.
Leeds expect the England u-21 international to become a member of the senior squad and value Gray in excess of £40m. The academy graduate was named EFL Championship Young Player of the Season for 2023-24.
