England u-21 winger set to snub Barcelona in favour of Premier League

Hull winger Jaden Philogene is set to snub a move to Barcelona in favour of a transfer to the Premier League.

Barcelona have been pursuing a deal for the England u-21 international after a breakthrough season in the Championship in 2023-24, with the 22-year-old scoring 12 times and providing six assists as Hull narrowly missed out on the play-offs.

The Spanish side were interested in a deal to sign Philogene on an initial loan with an obligation to buy but Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the switch is ‘unlikely’ as the winger is ‘giving priority to Premier League move’.

Philogene signed for Hull from Aston Villa for a fee of around £5m in 2023 and his performances in the second tier have made him a sought-after signing this summer.

Crystal Palace – who are seeking a replacement for Michael Olise – Everton and newly-promoted Ipswich Town have all sent the winger proposals, with a decision on his future expected to be made ‘soon’.

Philogene scored twice on his debut for England’s u-21 side in October 2023 and has netted three times in four caps for the Young Lions.

Last season, he ranked third in the Championship for shots per 90, fifth for successful take-ons and seventh for non-penalty goals.
