West Ham receive bold approach to take midfielder on loan

Flamengo have made a bold approach to sign Lucas Paquetá on loan from West Ham United.

Paqueta’s future is up in the air after he was charged by the FA for breaches of betting regulations in May.

The allegations against the Brazil international claim he intentionally tried to get himself booked in games against Leicester City, Aston Villa, Leeds and Bournemouth. Around 60 people are reported to have betted on Paqueta receiving cautions in those games and have been traced back near to Rio de Janeiro.

If found guilty, Paqueta could face a huge ban with some suggesting the 26-year-old could be hit with a suspension that curtails his career. The midfielder has strongly denied any wrongdoing.

The situation leaves West Ham in a difficult position, with the midfielder having been signed in a club-record deal worth more than £50m in 2022. Last summer, the Irons received interest from Manchester City in his services with the Premier League champions considering an £85m deal.

Fabrizio Romano has said negotiations are ongoing with Flamengo and West Ham over a loan arrangement and the Brazilian side are set to ‘insist’ on a deal in the coming days. Paqueta is currently with Brazil at the 2024 Copa America in the United States.
