Chelsea shift focus again in centre-forward pursuit

Chelsea have shifted their focus towards signing Lille forward Jonathan David as the Blues look to sign a number nine.

David is the latest name to head Chelsea’s shortlist of options, with the West Londoners having extensively assessed a number of players.

Jhon Duran, Victor Osimhen, and Karim Adeyemi have all been linked with Stamford Bridge, while Spanish outlet Marca are reporting that Chelsea have ended their pursuit of Atletico Madrid youngster Samu Omorodion. The Spanish side emphatically rejected a €40m approach from Chelsea and have no interest in selling the 20-year-old.

Chelsea have now shifted their focus towards Lille’s David, whose contract situation and interest in a transfer to the Premier League make him an appealing option.

The 24-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his deal with the French side and is reportedly available for a fee in the region of £20m-£25m.

Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham are also interested in the Canadian, who impressed as Canada reached the semi-finals of the Copa America this summer.

David scored 26 goals in all competitions last season and has netted 84 times in 183 appearances across four seasons in France.
