Manchester United still considering Amrabat extension

Manchester United are still considering whether to turn Sofyan Amrabat’s loan move from Fiorentina into a permanent deal.

Amrabat has returned to Fiorentina following a season-long loan move to Old Trafford but the Red Devils retain an option to make the deal permanent.

The Morocco international struggled to make an initial impact during his spell in the Premier League but an improved run of form towards the end of the campaign helped Erik ten Hag’s team to FA Cup success.

Amrabat is set to leave Fiorentina regardless of United’s decision, which Fabrizio Romano has revealed will be made this week with internal talks planned. The fee involved would be €20.5m (£17.25) for the 27-year-old.

United have been linked with signing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain for their defensive midfield role, though a deal for the Uruguay international would be expensive. PSG signed Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon for €60m last summer and would want to recoup that fee for the 23-year-old to leave, despite an openness to his exit.

Casemiro’s departure could heighten United’s need for midfield reinforcements with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad understood to have opened talks to sign the Brazilian.
