Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has said that ‘every player has their value’ amid interest in midfielder Matt O’Riley.
Atalanta have had two bids turned down for the 23-year-old, while there’s interest in O’Riley from the Premier League after a standout season in the Scottish Premiership.
The London-born Denmark international led the Scottish top-flight for assists in 2022-23, before scoring 19 goals in all competitions as Celtic retained the title last season.
Liverpool are the latest team linked with O’Riley, who is valued at around £26m at Celtic, while there’s been interest from West Ham, Brighton and Everton.
Celtic remain relaxed on the situation of the former Fulham and MK Dons player, though Rodgers has suggested the midfielder could leave Parkhead if a suitable offer arrives.
“Matt’s been at the club for three years. He’s developed into the player he has and he knows the privilege it is to play for Celtic,” Rodgers said ahead of Celtic’s 4-3 pre-season friendly win against Manchester City in the United States.
“Of course, naturally, how it works is the player gets that opportunity to move on.
“Celtic is a club where you can move on but you don’t have to and it’s a very difficult club to move on from. Naturally with the wages that are on offer for players, then that makes it a real challenge for Celtic to compete at that level.
“But what I’ve seen with Matt is he’s a first-class professional. He’s a really humble guy who’s very devoted to his profession and he knows what he has here so we’re all quite relaxed with it.
“Every player has a value but we see him as a really important player for us and whilst he is here, we’ll continue to develop him and help him improve.”
