Manchester United have been informed that it will cost £33.5m to sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
Tah has emerged as a potential option as United look to sign a second centre-back, following the £52m arrival of Leny Yoro from Lille. The Red Devils are keen to add a more experienced option to their ranks, with Yoro still just 18-years-old and set to be eased in at Old Trafford.
United have held talks with Bayern Munich over a deal to sign Matthijs de Ligt, with Erik ten Hag keen to reunite with a player he previously worked with at Ajax.
De Ligt is free to leave Bayern this summer, though United’s opening offer fell short of the German side’s €50m valuation of the 24-year-old. United have also had two bids rejected for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
Tah has now emerged as a viable alternative after expressing interest in leaving Bundesliga champions Leverkusen. The 28-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the BayArena and Leverkusen are prepared to sanction his sale for £33.5m, according to BILD.
Bayern Munich have been chasing a deal for the Germany international but have so far failed to meet Leverkusen’s expectations.
Tah was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2023-24 after helping Leverkusen to a maiden title success, with Xabi Alonso’s side winning a German double without losing a game. The centre-back featured four times at Euro 2024 this summer as host nation Germany reached the quarter-finals.
