Manchester United could use Jadon Sancho as part of a potential swap deal to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.
United are in negotiations with PSG over a deal to sign Ugarte, who is valued at around €70m (£58.9m) at the Parc des Princes.
The 23-year-old is the Red Devils’ top target to reinforce their defensive midfield position and led Ligue 1 for tackles per game in 2023-24. However, Ugarte failed to convince all at PSG after arriving from Sporting Lisbon last summer and the French champions are prepared to sanction his sale.
During discussions, PSG have expressed potential interest in signing Sancho. The winger has returned to Manchester United following a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, having rejoined his former side in January after a public fallout with Erik ten Hag.
Sancho and Ten Hag have since resolved their dispute with the 24-year-old part of the club’s pre-season preparations.
“We spoke well. Anyone can make a mistake. If the player reflects well on that, then you draw a line and move on again,” Ten Hag said after the pre-season win at Rangers.
“This club needs good players, and one thing is for sure: Jadon is a terribly good player. I hope that the click still comes, and that he will contribute to our success.’’
However, there remains a sense that Sancho could be sold should a suitable offer arrive. The Football Faithful understands that PSG’s interest in the England winger and United’s pursuit of Ugarte has opened the potential of a swap deal.
The mutually-beneficial transfer would see PSG add another attacking option following the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, while freeing funds for Manchester United to sign a second centre-back.
United have seen opening bids for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt turned down, while there is interest from Old Trafford in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah.
