Arsenal are set to submit an opening offer of around £60m for Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres.
Mikel Arteta wants to add a recognised number nine to his options this summer and Gyokeres is the leading target for the Gunners.
The 26-year-old scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists in 50 appearances last season, producing a spectacular first season in Portuguese football following his arrival from Coventry. Arsenal are now looking to beat Chelsea in the race to sign the Swedish striker and bring Gyokeres back to English football.
According to Caught Offside, Arsenal will firm up their interest in the player this week with an opening proposal worth in the region of £60m.
Sporting are reluctant to lose the forward who signed a long-term contract at the Estádio José Alvalade last summer which includes a release clause of €100m (£84.1m).
Coventry will be keeping a close eye on developments with the Sky Blues entitled to around 10-15% of any profit Sporting make on Gyokeres, who joined the club for €20m in 2023.
Arsenal’s interest comes amid doubts over the futures of Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus. The forwards combined for just nine league goals in 2024-25 and have each been linked with exits.
Nketiah is a transfer target for Marseille and Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace, while there’s interest in Jesus from the Saudi Pro League.
