Leicester look to beat West Ham to Arsenal winger

Leicester have submitted an initial loan offer for Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson with an obligation to buy.

The Foxes have entered the race to sign the 24-year-old who has expressed a desire to leave Arsenal this summer in search of regular first-team football.

Nelson signed a new long-term contract with the North Londoners last summer but was unable to break into Mikel Arteta’s plans and featured for just 257 minutes in the Premier League last season.

Interest is high in the winger and Leicester are looking to win a competitive race, with new head coach Steve Cooper having previously worked with Nelson during his time coaching England at youth level. Nelson impressed under Cooper’s management, scoring 11 goals in 11 appearances for the England u-17 side.

Leicester are hoping that connection can help the newly-promoted Foxes beat West Ham to his signature. The club’s tight finances mean their initial offer is a loan, according to Fabrizio Romano, with an obligation to make the move permanent.

Nelson could become Leicester’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following deals for Abdul Issahaku Fatawu, Michael Golding, Caleb Okoli and Bobby Decordova-Reid.
