Chelsea are in the ‘final stages’ of signing goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal in the summer transfer window.
The Denmark youth international caught the eye last season after breaking into the first team, ranking second among all goalkeepers across Europe’s top five leagues for saves made (143).
The Blues are ‘closing in’ on a deal for the 22-year-old as negotiations with the Spanish club near a conclusion, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Chelsea initially made an offer worth €20 million (£16.8m), but have ‘improved their proposal’ and are now thrashing out the structure of the deal with Villarreal.
Jorgensen, who has reportedly agreed on on a contract with the west London outfit, will be the club’s seventh signing of the summer. A busy window has seen them capture Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Caleb Wiley, Renato Veiga, Omari Kellyman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall so far.
The goalkeeper’s arrival will likely push another player out the door, with five shot stoppers already on the books at Stamford Bridge.
Kepa Arrizabalaga could leave Chelsea amid interest from the Saudi Pro League after returning from a loan spell at Real Madrid.
There are also doubts over the future of Djordje Petrovic who could depart despite making 31 appearances in all competitions last season.
Jorgensen is expected to compete with Robert Sanchez for first-choice status under new manager Enzo Maresca.
