Arsenal are in transfer talks over a deal to sign Fabian Ruiz as the Gunners target another Euro 2024 star.
Arsenal completed the transfer of Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori this week and have held negotiations with Real Sociedad to sign Mikel Merino.
However, that duo are not the only impressive Euro 2024 performers on the club’s radar with the Gunners also interested in Merino’s international teammate, Ruiz.
The latter was one of the stars of Spain’s success at this summer’s European Championship, where he scored twice and provided two assists as a key cog in Luis de la Fuente’s victorious side.
Ruiz has struggled for favour at Paris Saint-Germain and started just 14 games in Ligue 1 last season, with Arsenal opening negotiations over the prospect of signing the 28-year-old.
Arsenal’s bid would be a loan-to-buy arrangement according to transfer journalist Duncan Castles, as the North Londoners look for an ideal complement alongside Declan Rice in the engine room.
According to the report, Arsenal would need to offload one of their current midfielders before bringing Ruiz to the Emirates, with Thomas Partey and Fabio Vieira options to leave.
The Gunners also remain keen on a deal for Merino, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Sociedad. The 28-year-old could be available for a fee of around £20m, with Barcelona rivalling Arsenal’s interest.
Arsenal are set to bring in transfer funds with Emile Smith Rowe set to complete a move to Fulham for an initial fee of £27m on Wednesday. Arteta’s side have also received a £16.8m bid from Marseille for Eddie Nketiah.
