De Ligt left out of Bayern tour amid Man United talks

Matthijs de Ligt will not travel with the Bayern Munich squad for their pre-season tour of Asia as talks continue on the player’s future.

Manchester United are interested in a deal to sign the Dutch defender and have had an opening offer for De Ligt rejected.

Negotiations are set to continue between the clubs with Erik ten Hag keen to reunite with a player he previously worked with at Ajax. Ten Hag handed De Ligt his breakthrough in the Eredivisie and appointed the centre-back Ajax captain while still a teenager.

Bayern are open to the sale of the 24-year-old this summer and value De Ligt in the region of €50m (£42.1m). United’s opening proposal of €35m (£29.4m) fell significantly short of that asking price.

The Red Devils are expected to return with an improved offer, while their interest could accelerate following an injury to Leny Yoro. The summer signing was injured during the pre-season defeat to Arsenal and was pictured on crutches following the clash.

Sky Germany’s revelation that De Ligt will not board the Bayern Munich plane to South Korea on Wednesday indicates that transfer talks are progressing.

However, Noussair Mazraoui will travel with the rest of the squad. Manchester United are also interested in signing the Morocco full-back.
